Have You Seen ‘Love and Death’?

My halfway thoughts on this TV show.

This intriguing HBO Max TV series caught my attention when first advertised on ITV X in the UK. Two things immediately grabbed me and got me wanting to tune in.

Firstly, it was made by the makers of Big Little Lies and secondly, it starred Wandavision herself, Elizabeth Olsen.

With a great script, good cinematography and a stellar cast, this TV show is well worth watching.

What’s It All About?

It turns out this series is based on a true story but I have avoided finding out about this until after I finish the show.

This is a story of a woman, Candy, who is a member of the local church choir and gets tempted to have an affair with another member of the congregation. Set in Wylie, Texas, it centres on a wholesome white picket fence town which is full of deeply religious families and not prepared for the scandal that unwinds.

Needless to say an awful death stirs things up and puts Candy under scrutiny.

Elizabeth Olsen is brilliant in this role, able to show her character’s weaknesses as well as her ability to cover things up. The secret affair is better kept in the dark but events just keep bringing it into the limelight.

And Finally…

I have not finished the series and do not want to share any spoilers so I will leave the rest to your imagination. Hopefully the last few episodes will continue to be intriguing and satisfying.

With a cool theme tune and great leading actors, this drama is full of thrills, awkwardness and scenes of deceit. I totally encourage you to tune into it on ITV X or HBO Max.
