Are you afraid of spiders?

Are you scared of spiders? Have you heard of the rare new find of a giant spider in Queensland in Australia?

Maybe you are as intrigued as I am after reading about them.

I switched on the CNN channel television and heard the news that in Queensland in Australia, a giant rare spider was found.

I am scared of spiders. They are small but they cause havoc by dirtying the place with webs.

I see spiders at home and I detest them. Fortunately, they are tiny but they make a big web and when you get in by mistake it irritates your skin and you want to get it down immediately.

I get a deep cleaning agency to come and clean my house every month and I do not want to see a single web in my home.

When I was working at Jesus and Mary College in New Delhi the cleaner of the floor used to say that before mam comes on this floor check that there are no webs around or she will get upset about it.

Somehow when I heard the news I was intrigued about a rare giant species of spider found in Queensland.

My goodness, how would people be dealing with it?

A new and large species of spider has been found living in Queensland, Australia, and the news related that researchers felt that the spider needed protection.

According to the reports, the spider was very rare and it was also colorful. It is a large hairy spider usually found in tropical countries and can be poisonous too. It is of the tarantula-like creature family and it is a type of golden trapdoor spider belonging to the genus Euoplos. This has been extensively researched since 2017.

Fox55 explained that protection is needed for this rare species, the researchers also found. When the researchers located the male Euoplos

They finally found the rare variety spider on a roadside in the Eidsvold-Monto region in May 2021. It was the first collection of the species since the 1990s.

It is called Euoplos Dignita, the species and was first discovered in the early 20th century, near the towns of Monto and Eidsvold, However, due to a lack of research, it was not found for a long time. Also, there were no known males among them, and that posed a significant obstacle. So the researchers needed new genetic material they could test from a living male specimen and they found one on the road in Queensland. They checked the gentilia and found that it was the species that they were looking for.

I immediately checked Twitter and I found an interesting article on the rare spider

Some takeaways

  • 1️⃣This spider was named Euoplos Dignitas. Dignitas is “Latin for dignity or greatness, in reference to the really spectacular nature of this spider,” Rix said in a YouTube video published by the Queensland Museum Network. “It’s a big, beautiful species.”

- 2️⃣On reading several articles I found thatfemales of the species have a red-brown carapace, burrow-building behavior, and can grow to 2 inches long, which is “very large” for this type of spider, according to the study. The males have a bright ‘honey-red’ carapace and legs, withgrayish brown abdomens.

3️⃣These spiders have a long life Some of these species called trapdoor mygalomorphs can live for many years and the longest-lived trapdoor tarantula was 43 years old.

4️⃣The rare species has been described by CNN in the following paragraph by showing that they can be found only one at a time.

As reported by CNN “Until detailed survey work is completed, we won’t know how many remaining populations exist,” Rix said. “But the natural range of the species is small (and) highly fragmented, and we were only able to discover one living (specimen) at the time.”

To wrap up

From the above research, we find that we need not be so scared of spiders. They also need protection because some of them are so rare and scientists do want to find out more about them and how they can be useful to ecology.

I think it would be interesting to understand how these rare spiders would be part of nature and contribute to the environment and ecology too.
