Have You Heard of Crossing The Bridge Noodles?
This is a famous dish in Yunnan, China!

What do ramen, udon, wonton, and soba have in common? If you answered NOODLES, you’re correct. But have you ever heard of Crossing the Bridge (過橋米線) noodles? What a strange name!
Why Are The Noodles Called “Crossing The Bridge”?
There are a number of stories behind the origin of the name. The most popular one is about a scholar who was studying on a small, quiet island for his exams.¹ His wife was afraid he would forget to eat, so she brought him food each day. You guessed it. She crosses a bridge to get to the island.
When she arrived with the food, it became all soggy and cold. To make sure her husband had a fresh bowl of hot noodles, she separated all the dishes and assembled it when she arrived instead. So loving!
How Do You Eat It?
Today, there are many variations of this dish. You can order spicy noodles and customize the side dishes, for example. The idea is the same, no matter what you order.
The server will bring you a hot stone bowl of piping hot broth, accompanied by many side dishes. The side dishes can vary, depending on where you go. It will include items such as meat, veggies, quail eggs, crab sticks, and many other foods.
All you need to do is toss all the dishes into the hot broth and wait a few minutes for it to cook! It’s kind of fun to be honest. Of course, it’s delicious too!

Where Can You Eat it?
The noodles are a famous dish in Yunnan, China. However, you can still try it at many other places in Toronto and Markham. Here are a few options if you’re in the area.

- Dagu Rice Noodles
- Yunshang Rice Noodle
