THE DIARIST

Have you Ever Tried Expanding a Picture in a Physical Magazine?

It only works when you’re dreaming

In a dream-like state reflection: 22nd of February 2024

Maisie reached over to my book with her chubby little hands. She tried to enlarge a picture on the page with her fingers. It was a difficult enough task for her on a tablet.

Infants have clumsy coordination, and not much room between their thumb and forefinger. Often it’s a two finger task. But it’s an impossible job with a printed book.

“I did that in a dream once with a printed book,” I said to her with some wonder.

“Ohh!?”

“Yes, but in the dream, it actually worked. It strangely behaved like a tablet.”

That funny exchange happened between myself and a child some years ago.

Fast forward to last night

I was sitting by myself, relaxed by the fire with a women’s magazine at my side. It was, to be clear, a print magazine. I opened it randomly to leaf through it before going to bed.

I came on a photograph of an attractive woman and, without thinking, I tried to enlarge her with my fingers. But she remained stationary.

I then laughed as I realised my mistake. I snapped out of my sleepy reverie with mild shock.

Thank goodness nobody was watching me.

Oh heavens above, please tell me I’m not the only adult who’s done this whilst tired.

What’s happened to me Morpheus?

Have you ever felt like you’re in some kind of dream matrix?
