Have You Ever Heard Of Sensitive Reading?
Many publishers and authors today let a sensitive reader look over their manuscripts before they are published. There are many misunderstandings and rumors about sensitive reading.
Sensitive reading is about letting another person look at a text in addition to the editor. This person reads the text from the perspective of a group that appears in the text but to which the author himself does not belong.
If a heterosexual author writes about a Gay relationship, a gay person will look at the text in the context of Sensitive Reading. His or her task is then to identify unintentional stereotypes and microaggressions in the text.
