Have You Ever?
Something (might have) happened to me
Have you ever felt as if… as if something happened to you? Long ago. Traumatized, in some way. Yet no memories exist or can be readily retrieved. Fuzzy at best. A feeling. A sense. Hurt — scarred so deeply that not even a mind’s picture has been filed for further review. Our brain’s built-in protection. A defense mechanism. It’s keeping us safe but also seems a bit like self-gaslighting. Did it actually happen? Do I really want to remember? What’s wrong with me? (weak and vulnerable and ashamed, that’s what. No, I shouldn’t think that way) Remembering could be a slippery slope down an unwanted rabbit hole. Failing to remember might be more destructive. Have you ever?
