Have No One to Talk To? Talk to the Void
Pets and plants aren’t the only things a human can talk to.
We all have no one to talk to at some point. It can be because there’s literally no one or because we’re too embarrassed about our feelings or thoughts.
Sometimes, I have no one to talk to because I don’t know who to talk to. It seems that talking is pointless because no one will fully understand me anyway.
But they say that bottling things up is never good for us because it will slowly kill us in some way, or because we’ll blow up sooner or later. So, what should we do then?
My answer’s simple: talk to the void.
The concept is similar to how people talk to their pets or plants about their problems.
But not everyone’s a fan of pets or plants or have the money to have them. So, swap them with the void, the air.
The other day, I was frustrated about my life. It seems that it’s not progressing. It’s stagnant, and what I am currently building is not going anywhere either. I have a lot of repressed feelings and thoughts.
No one I know can understand what I’m feeling because they’ve never walked the same path I’m currently walking on.
So, before I slept, I turned the lights off, lay down on my bed, and started vocalizing all my problems, thoughts, and feelings to my empty bedroom.
I cried a little and felt so much better.
Benefits of Talking to the Void:
1. You don’t feel bad for not being understood
When we talk about our problems with other people, we unknowingly expect them to listen, understand, and sometimes, to give a solution.
We think that since they are willing to lend their ears, they now owe us their understanding. And when they don’t, we get even more frustrated about the situation.
But when talking to the void, you don’t feel that entitlement. You just want to let everything out, and that’s it. There’s no bitter aftertaste afterward.
2. Void gives you a sense of comfort and feeling heard
When talking to the void, you know that it won’t reply to you nor give you advice. But the silence it has to whatever qualms you have makes you feel heard.
Sometimes, when you talk to somebody, you also feel anxious about what they will say about you for thinking or feeling a certain way.
But, there’s nothing to worry about by being vulnerable with the void. The silence encourages you and gives you the chance to say everything without a filter.
3. Background story is never needed
When you talk to someone about something, you have to tell them everything from the start because it gives them the context they need to understand what you’re going through better.
With void, it doesn’t matter. The void is there with you twenty-four-seven. So, it knows all the things it needs to know to understand where you’re coming from.
You don’t have to waste words and time; you only need to tell the part that’s bothering you.
4. Random structured stories are welcomed
Some of us have a hard time conveying what we want to say. Having to tell the story in a certain order so that the person you’re talking to can easily understand what’s going on makes it so much worse.
But you see, you don’t have to do that when talking to the void. Its job is only to listen to you. So, you can tell your story in any order you want.
You only have to try and vocalize everything out because once you’ve let your frustrations out, you’ll feel better.
It’s similar to why you cry. Crying won’t solve anything, but it does help you stay grounded.
5. Void is always there with you
When talking to another human, there is a waiting time before the other will respond to you. It can be a few seconds after, and it can even be up to a few days later if it’s through text.
You have to wait for them, which is normal because we all have our own busyness.
But the void is everywhere. You can convey your thoughts and feelings to it in your bedroom like me, shower, or anywhere you’re comfortable with.
There’s no waiting time either. So, if you found yourself not having someone to talk to at the moment, talk to the void.
Final Thoughts
Having someone to listen to us is comforting. But getting someone to listen and understand what we truly feel at certain moments is hard.
What you can do is to vocalize your troubles and worries to the void instead.
It gives you the flexibility to say your thoughts and feelings, however and whenever you want without ever being scared of being vulnerable or judged.
But if you really need to talk to someone, do so.
The people surrounding you will never know how you truly feel about something if you keep everything to yourself.
And if there’s literally no one, then talk to a stranger. You can even talk to me.
What matters most is to get it all out of your system.
