Happy Where I’m Planted — My Response to the Meaning of “Home”
Wondering about wandering, and vice versa
There’s nowhere I HAVE to be until July 12th, 2021 at 9AM.
So I’m about to wander.
I’ve enjoyed a lifetime of wandering about. Seventeen different grade schools. Extended travels — and a long stint living — abroad. Different cities, states, continents, jobs, friends and acquaintances. I’ve enjoyed them all.
Everyplace I’ve been has felt like home. Even the ordinary or marginally sketchy places.
Exactly why that is … beyond the scope of this short entry. But it does center on purpose or choice or decision to be: happy, engaged, satisfied, challenged in a positive way by a new environment, excited by a different experience, part of a different culture, growing and learning, developing skills, and making a contribution.
Starting tomorrow I’ll be hitting the road for some weeks to perhaps as long as two months. I’ll be visiting a variety of communities, most of which I’ve never been to before, and meeting new people, most of whom I do not now know.
All will feel like home.
Then I’ll return to my home.
As always, thank you Lucy Dan 蛋小姐 (she/her/她) for your support, your excellent pub and your excellent prompts. There’s home there too.
