Happy Pi Day with Savory Pies
Best way to celebrate Pi day

“Unlike Pi, we will run out of pies this Thursday, March 14 during our weekly Unity Run.” — Wild Runners Fair Oaks
When Wild Runners of Fair Oaks announced the celebration of Pi Day with pie at the end, I didn’t think about the fact that Babylonians and ancient Egyptians used an approximated measurement, or that the first calculation of pi was done by Archimedes, a legendary mathematician of the ancient world, according to CBS News. I also didn’t know that in 1988 the holiday was founded by physicist Larry Shaw, who was on staff at the Exploratorium, a science museum in San Francisco.
Not being mathematically inclined, eating pie after my second run of the day sounded like a delicious, sweet way to celebrate.
The only difference was that we were served savory pies baked by Solstice Savory Pies, “a fusion of wanderlust, inspirations and gourmet delight.”
The four different pies that I tried melted in my mouth with a perfect balance of meat and organic vegetables. I decided to buy the porcini portobello truffle risotto and the Provençale chicken to share with my family. I loved chatting with Marnie Coots, the Sacramento owner of Solstice Savory Pies (I love the alliteration in their name). I thanked Marnie for coming over to share her pies with us.
All I could think was pie during my 3.14-mile run, and I guess there is some savory science about Pi Day.
Happy Pi Day, everyone! Hope your pie was as savory as mine. Or maybe it was sweet.
