Happy Naked Feet

Connecting to our mother

What is under your feet? Are you touching the Earth? Do you go entire days without touching the Earth? When you are sleeping how much space is there between your body and the Earth?

I am so very, very grateful that I do not live on the thirty-fourth floor of some skyscraper. I would be so far removed from the planet that it would be difficult to remain grounded. I am also thankful that I am not an astronaut.

We are all earthlings. Our connection to this planet is evident in every atom of our bodies. The Earth is our mother but we have turned away from her. We rarely, if ever, touch her. We have been frighteningly disconnected from Mother Gaia/Mother Nature and are blissfully unaware of the consequences.

Yesterday we had a beautiful spring-like day here on the Great Plains of Turtle Island. I celebrated by walking barefoot on the grass. There was absolutely nothing separating my body from the planet — not even the thin soles of shoes. There was absolutely nothing blocking the energy moving back and forth between myself and the planet. The planet and I were one.

Yes, I am an earthling and I take that seriously.

While walking barefoot on the grass I stopped and harvested some dandelion leaves for a soup that I was going to make. The entire dandelion plant — leaves, flowers, and roots — is extremely healthy for human bodies. But we send ‘gardeners’ out there to spray them with toxic poison to kill them. Why are humans so ignorant? (Luckily, I was walking on grass that has not yet been poisoned. The dandelions around here are just barely starting to bloom.)

When was the last time you slept naked on the ground through the night with absolutely nothing between your body and the planet? It has been way too long for me. If I did it where I live now I’d get arrested. But I have done it before and I know what a profoundly healing thing that is. The Earth will suck out your body’s poisons while balancing out your electromagnetic field. You wake up very energized. Try it.

Walking is one of the best ways to stay connected to the planet. Your feet may be separated from the ground by a thin layer of sock and shoe but that is still a lot closer than driving a vehicle where you are always at least a foot above the ground. We have chakras in our feet that are designed to connect us with Earth energies and vibrations. Walking creates a rhythm that tunes us in to Gaia. I prefer to walk over natural ground rather than on asphalt streets and concrete sidewalks. Asphalt and concrete are very low vibrational substances that create a vibrational barrier.

Have you ever slept through the night on the ground inside a teepee? I have. It’s something I really like about teepees, along with their roundness. What I don’t like about teepees is that there are never enough windows.

While I am eternally thankful that I do not live in a skyscraper, I am not very happy about the fact that I still live in a second-floor apartment. There is way too much space between me and the planet. I hope to rectify this in the near future. I don’t ever want to live upstairs again. I want to live as close to the planet as possible.

And I do not like tall beds. They keep us disconnected from the planet, too. I currently sleep on a normal bed and while it is comfy as all get out my idea of a healthy bed is a single mattress on the floor of a ground level home.

And carpeting is something else that separates us from the planet. I want a home that has zero carpeting. I would love nothing better than to throw my vacuum cleaner away.

Do you ever think about all the many layers of unnatural substances layered between the bottoms of your feet and Mother Gaia?

Or is it just me?

I may be a simple earthling but I constantly strive to be a better earthling. Call me crazy but I try to strip down and break through all the many barriers — mental, physical, and spiritual — that we modern humans have built between ourselves and the planet we are an intricate part of.

I also think it is important to have happy feet. If only there was an ocean beach nearby. But that’s okay. I know where there is some grass nearby. My toes are twitching with glee as I write this because they know that later today they will get to touch the Earth.

(By the way, I never wear anything on my feet when I write. I am a barefoot writer. My feet are always naked when my fingertips go dancing on the keyboard.)
