Hongkongers Will Forever Remember a Scene of Massimo Ambrosini
Happy Birthday
On 29 May 2004, Massimo Ambrosini, football star from AC Milan, was on the live anniversary party for a Hong Kong’s TV broadcaster namely Asia Television (ATV) with his team.
Ambrosini whose Hong Kong’s Chinese translation being 岩布仙尼 (Jyutping: ngaam4 bou3 sin1 nei4, literally “rock-cloth-fairy-nun”) shares his birthday with ATV.
ATV's birthday is, in fact, complicated. They said it was 29 May backthen, but there were other options.
Knowing this fact, a TV host asked everyone to sing a birthday song together, and then one of the most embarrassing scene in Hong Kong’s TV history happened.
In such a crowded hall, there were nearly nobody singing the birthday song, and the footballer had to sing “Happy birthday to me” in front of a microphone. How lonely he was.
This is themost awkward birthday scene we should ever have encountered.
And it was live.
Poor Ambrosini, he would never be reminded of his football skills in Hong Kong. Every Hongkonger pities his lonely birthday scene.
When a Hongkonger talks about a lonely birthday, or is going to have one, they would talk about the Italian footballer. Plus a “Happy birthday to me”.
