Happy Birthday, Dolly Parton!
January 19
The first-ever “grown-up” music recording I owned was the “9 to 5” single on vinyl. The sleeve had a photo from the movie, which for some reason our parents let us watch repeatedly on TV; maybe they knew the sex and drug references went over our heads.
My dad bought the record for me. It was the same size as the read-along records that came with my Disney storybooks, perfect for spinning on a kid-sized record player.
My brother and I would put on the record and dance around the dining room and living room. We played it so much that we worked out a mini dance routine.
More recently, Dolly has given away over 197 million books to kids, according to the website for her Imagination Library.
I will always love Dolly!
