LIFE

Create Your Own Happy Birthday Wish List!

The perfect time to make your birthday wishes come true — now!

It was my good fortune to have been born on June 21st, the summer solstice, the longest (sunniest) day of the year.

2020 is a special birthday year because it has been — and will continue to be — such a period of transition. New societal norms, career directions, living situations, relationships, ways of being and more will mark this year for me and for many of you. Wishes may come true. Fears may be realized. Dreams will blossom into reality.

We all know the birthday wish ritual. Light the candles on the birthday cake and make a wish or two. Then blow out all the candles with just one breath. And especially, don’t reveal your wishes because then they won’t come true.

Well, I’m willing to take that risk and share my wishes. Here’s hoping they come to pass. I’ll take their fulfillment in any order they present themselves!

  1. Enough, just enough, food, clothing and shelter to be comfortable. Not more than I need but enough to meet my needs.
  2. World peace. Let’s stop shouting at one another long enough to listen and understand. From Covey —” Listen with the intent to understand, not with the intent to reply.” We can do this.
  3. Find someone cute who thinks I’m cute too.
  4. Connect with another who “gets me” and who I “get.”
  5. Write more, and read more good writing.
  6. Travel, explore and adventure. It doesn’t have to be anything beyond “ordinary.” I’ll find the “extraordinary” in the experience.
  7. See more beautiful places.
  8. Stay healthy and be healthy.
  9. Lose my “quarantine 15.”
  10. Continue to say “yes” to all good things.
  11. Have COVID-19 fade to a bad memory.
  12. Promote the positive wishes and dreams of others — as often as possible and as much as possible.
  13. Laugh and smile as often as possible and as much as possible. Ensure that others around me are doing the same.

That’s it for now. I’ll stop at a baker’s dozen. Seems like a generous enough series of gifts for one year.

Other wishes and dreams and little birthday stories will undoubtedly occur to me. I’ll post them as they do.

Meanwhile, what are your wishes, dreams and stories?
