Handle With Care

A gift from me to you.

“Gift Box” by mistycreates —Mistycreates.com

the word [forgive] was aptly forged by those who lived and loved before us.

it truly is something one gives

away

after much forethought and rumination;

it becomes our new present.

maybe even an awaited reality we give into

because we’re too tired of all the weight that comes with being right;

or too rattled from being at the forefront of a belated battle,

so we yield, and give up

on the crushing fight

and choose a loving embrace.

we give, and give

even after so many tries.

to [forgive is a gift;

don’t tear it open in one swift motion,

handle with care.

Thank you for reading! Response to the weekly Lifeline prompt. Was thinking about how some take advantage of one’s forgiveness, or how we might forget how much strength it takes.

Also unrelated question: when you read writing in second person, does it sound accusatory at times? I enjoy using it in poetry because of the shift it can cause.
