THE ART OF CONTACT
The Haiku of Alien Contact
Sometimes it takes a simple poem to express extremely complex ideas like ET/UFO reality. Trail of the Saucers shares some of our Haiku poems and welcomes yours.

I make no claims to be a poet, but it did occur to me a few years ago that trying to truly understand the mystery of the Phenomenon we are encountering may require more than literate essays to convey its meaning. So I started writing what I called “haikufo” poems (a smash-up of haiku and UFO) on my Twitter account under the #haikufo hashtag. A few other people joined in, and I’ve been collecting them ever since.
The haiku originated in Japan as far back as the 9th century with a specific structure, style, and philosophy — basically, a 5–7–5 syllable pattern. Only three-lines, this form of poetry can be the quick artistic hit, with provocative imagery or big ideas, and even, when luck strikes, a sense of sudden enlightenment and illumination.
I’d invite you to write your own haikufo in our comments to this article and/or to post them on Twitter under that #haikufo hashtag for inclusion in this piece. They’re fun to write. Whether they’re meaningful is something best left to the reader and everyone will be different.
