Summary

Sherry McGuinn reflects on an idealistic utopia filled with simple pleasures and the absence of life's common adversities.

Abstract

In a contemplative piece titled "Haiku-Topia," Sherry McGuinn paints a vivid picture of a perfect world through a series of haikus. This utopian vision includes indulging in carb-free pasta, basking in perpetual sunshine, and enjoying the companionship of pets. The narrative transports readers to a serene setting where they can enjoy bird songs, float in a pristine lake, and marvel at a star-filled night sky. In McGuinn's imagined world, pain, disease, worry, and the fear of death are nonexistent, allowing for an existence of pure contentment and safety. The author, known for her slightly twisted and award-winning writing, invites readers to explore her other works, which delve into various aspects of life, from the surreal experience of night driving to the complexities of privilege.

Haiku-Topia

My “prompt response.”

Pasta with no carbs. With butter and lots of cheese. And all you can eat.

Sunshine all the time. The caress of a warm breeze Grass, green and velvety-soft.

Our pets at our feet. Basking in, and giving, love. Happy. Healthy. Safe.

Bird song, our soundtrack. A pristine lake to float in. The night sky, star-struck.

No pain nor disease. No worry nor fear of death. Just living the dream.
