Guilt, Earned Justice, No Tolerance for Ambiguity

No One Can Win in Palestine

We are asking for the impossible in Palestine.

I wonder how much of what is playing out in Gaza is because of a U$ sense of guilt for having taken so long to assist Jewish flight from Nazi Germany? How much of it is a Zionist Israeli sense of an earned restorative justice — since the world treated them so unforgivably in the Holocaust, now they have the right to do likewise to others? It’s a sick humanity’s pathology being played out in what will become part of the Palestinian & Israeli psyches for generations to come.

The world never learns: one side versus another, one view against another. Never is ambiguity allowed to dominate, to settle in & leave the opposing sides to consider one another’s’ views, divergent perspectives, a different take on life or some part of it.

It’s not unlike the optimist & the pessimist entering the railroad tunnel with the optimist convinced that he sees the far opening, while the pessimist maintains that the distant light is an approaching train. Meanwhile, the realist, being the engineer on the train, is muttering to himself, “Damned, I’m going to have to roll over those 2 morons sitting on the track again. They just never learn!”

Teams of scholars should be flooding Northern Ireland, Vietnam, South Africa, Sudan, Myanmar, Afghanistan, the former U.S.S.R., the former Yugoslavia, the states of India, Pakistan, & Bangladesh, & all those other hellholes in which wars have been waged &/or genocides perpetrated in recent times to dig deeper, prod harder, speculate farther — what did we, what can we, as a common humanity, learn from these experiences in order not to repeat them again? We risk our own & the planet’s future by wasting these lessons as though we can just slip another culture into a petri dish & rerun the experiments. Humanity is way too profligate in how it wastes not only its precious resources but also unrepeatable unique opportunities.

Our descendants will be made to pay & pay & pay with unimaginable pain & guilt for what is being done time after time after again. Yet we dare to say we love our kids!? People without consciences do not love, can not love. It’s like asking a sadist to have mercy, or a psychopath to do the right thing.

I strongly suggest to the Zionist Israelis to consider Birobidzhan or other options if you ever want humanity or even your future generations to forgive you for what you have been doing in Palestine since your arrival in the Palestinian homeland a century ago. I’m sure the Palestinians themselves will never forgive you but will keep you looking over your shoulders as long as you stay. You are engaged in & unwittingly forcing your future generations into a long slow suicide.
