Guilt
A poem
I am here to absolve you of the guilt you don’t know that is there, but wait! I can offer you the greatest solution this world has ever invented — it’s called “destroy everything you’ve ever built”.
I’m a great salesperson, so here’s one more tip. There is a secret option, for the select few. It’s a limited time offer so decide fast, you don’t want to miss out on this once-in-a-lifetime guilt trip.
And when you can’t beat yourself up anymore, I’ll dance my way to you and whisper the truth in your ear in the moment that it’ll hurt the most: “The backdoor you left unlocked, determined the outcome of the war.”
Cry now or sink quietly in your sorrow. You brought this on to yourself. You knew this day would come, but you thought you would be free by now. Go on, lose yourself in a daydream for a better tomorrow.
Notes: It’s rare anymore that I’ll feel guilt about something, but when it starts it doesn’t want to let go.
Currently I’m going through such a phase and even though I know that logically there’s nothing to feel guilty of, my OCPD has a different opinion.
The cover photo is inspired by the main themes of Stendhal’s “Red and Black”.
