Gretchen Carlson accuses Fox News of spreading ‘fake news’ and letting Trump spread ‘The Big Lie’

Gretchen Carlson, who left Fox News after a sexual harassment lawsuit in 2016, accused her former employer of propagating “fake news” on CNN on Thursday.
Before beginning The Real Story with Gretchen Carlson in 2013, Carlson co-hosted Fox & Friends for years. A month after her contract was not extended, she accused network co-founder and CEO Roger Ailes of sexual harassment.
Old CNN anchor Megyn Kelly came on Democracy in Peril with Jim Acosta to discuss her former employer and how both were involved in the Jan. 6 Capitol attack, she said.

With increasing tensions with Russia, Acosta presented a clip of Tucker Carlson wondering why the US supports Ukraine, a nation he claims Americans do not support.
Acosta questioned Carlson about Fox News after accusing it of letting former President Donald Trump and others to spread “the great lie” on TV.
“Can you tell me why you believe Tucker does this?” he inquired. What is the reason for the Murdochs’ approval of it? Does it seem like they don’t give a damn, or is it all about money and ratings, in your opinion?”
She answered by saying, “First and foremost, I believe, are the ratings. However, this is the outcome of false information. Know what I mean? We’re witnessing not just the impact from false news throughout the Trump administration, but also what occurred with the January 6 revolt. And now it’s spreading beyond the news to include other sectors as well. With vaccinations, it is now making its way into the scientific community. After that, it moves into Cold War politics.”
“If we were to be debating whether or not we should support Ukraine or Russia today, there wouldn’t be a single Republican on the face of the globe who would have declared five years ago that they would have backed Russia over Ukraine. However, this is where we are at the moment. Conservative television news now is a far cry from the conservative news that was available even only five years ago on the airwaves.”

Acosta inquired as to whether Carlson was shocked that Fox News anchors Sean Hannity and Laura Ingraham sent text messages to former White House chief of staff Mark Meadows during the Capitol incident. Carlson said that she was not.
Carlson reacted as follows: “This is not always the case. If it occurs on one side of the office, I’m not sure it doesn’t happen on the other as well, depending on who happens to be in the office. That being said, I believe the more significant story to emerge from this is how disingenuous it was to be sending those text messages of warning while simultaneously going on the air and doing a complete injustice and disservice to the American people by saying something completely opposite, and igniting this whole reaction that it was perfectly acceptable and patriotic for people to be there on January 6th.”
“This has transformed into destroying any other point of view during the Trump period that is not simply an opinion,” Carlson said.
