NEW YORK IS WHERE I’D RATHER BE

Green Acres Revisited

Rural Americas Lovefest with Donald J. Trump

I repeatedly contemplate the same questions while scratching different parts of my anatomy. Some parts more than others when no one’s looking but I won’t go into that now.

The burning question is why do so many rural Americans like Donald J. Trump? Correction, why do so many rural Americans love Donald J. Trump?

Trump was raised in the New York City borough of Queens but expended a lot of time, money, and energy trying to get to the borough of Manhattan and the social life of Manhattan society. By all accounts, his world did not exist outside of metropolitan New York City. He once owned and bankrupted a casino in Atlantic City, New Jersey and he owns a golf club in Bedminster, New Jersey but these places are close to New York City.

A November 2, 2020, Forbes story details the many Trump supporters at a rally in Rome, Georgia that were left stranded and waiting for hours in cold weather. The rally attendees were waiting for buses to take them back to their cars. A similar situation occurred the previous week in Omaha, Nebraska in freezing weather. Many elderly and handicapped persons had to have medical attention.

During the Trump initiated trade-war with China on February 15, 2020, a Washington Post story detailed the forever bankruptcies that farmers suffered. The Farm Bureau estimated that farmers had lost the vast majority of a 24 billion dollar market. Cranberry farmers in Massachusetts, dairy and cheese farmers in Wisconsin, corn and soybean farmers in Nebraska, wheat farmers in Kansas, and cattlemen in Texas, to name a few were all affected by this unnecessary trade war.

Another question that I contemplate is just how many rural Americans would be welcome to valet park at Trump International Hotel and Tower where its 176 rooms have a starting price of $684 per night. Maybe they would be welcome at Trump’s Central Park property where the rooms start at a reasonable $494 per night. I am sure if they doled out the $350,000 Initiation Fee at Mar-A-Lago in Florida they certainly would be welcomed in the pristine dining rooms. Did I mention they would also need to pluck down the $25,000 per year membership fee?

This man flies over rural America on most days and lands in some out of his way place to sell hats, flags, and Trumpy bears and begs for donations from hardworking and retired people. He takes off in his private plane that hardworking Americans have repaired. Remember Airforce One is no longer available to him. He takes off and leaves his rural followers scrambling for transportation back to their vehicles. Why do they love him? I can just hear him thinking to himself:

New York is where I’d rather stay. I get allergic smelling hay. I just adore a penthouse view. Dah-ling I love you but give me Park Avenue
