Greek Traditions: Perfumes

…and why you should avoid them

Did you know that in Greece, giving perfume as a gift is considered to bring bad luck?

Most specifically, according to the Greek tradition, a perfume as a gift can actually ruin a relationship between the sender and the recipient.

If someone does give a perfume as a gift, the recipient should give back a coin to the sender. Value doesn’t matter, and not many coins are needed. It just has to be one coin, any coin.

That’s the only way to prevent bad luck.

I have never offered a perfume as a gift for that reason. Not even one time when I knew a special someone would have loved a specific perfume for a birthday gift.
