WRITING PROMPT RESPONSE

Gratitude Journal

Let’s show more gratitude and joy in life

Credit: Anne Bonfert

While the rest of the writers are working on their novel challenge trying to achieve their goal of writing a certain amount of words per day to finish the long-planned book, I’m rather joining the train of writing prompts that keep my inspiration up.

Ellie Jacobson wrote about thanksgiving and about showing some gratitude this month. She suggested writing a gratitude journal in the effort of finding everyday something you’re grateful for.

I joined a bit late to the party since I only saw her post halfway into the month but decided to write down every day a few notes about something I was grateful for that day.

This is my first week of showing gratitude.

Day 1: I am grateful for sleeping late this Sunday morning and being curled up in a warm blanket on a gray November day. There is nothing like a fluffy blanket when you’re cold.

Day 2: I am grateful for the flat we’re living in. It’s such a small home, yet brings me so much comfort. Adding to it the stunning view from our terrace, it often helps me lift my mood if I should have a down day.

Day 3: I am grateful for the person on my side. In my husband, I don’t just have found a partner that lives for the same dreams I do and enjoys traveling and adventures, but I have also found a best friend on my side that listens to me when I’m sad, depressed, or have any other issues to talk about.

Day 4: I am grateful for having found my passion for writing. Somehow through my travels and adventures, my mind got inspired and the writer in me came out. It took some years to form my writing and find my style and I’m surely not done with the learning process but I just find so much joy in it.

Day 5: I am grateful for having friends with similar lifestyles and mindsets as I do. It makes it so much easier to connect. They’re not upset when you don’t call them for a few weeks or months and when you finally meet up again it’s as if you’ve never been apart.

Day 6: I am grateful for all the forests on earth. Nothing else soothes my soul and my body more than a walk in a forest. Trees are our lungs. They produce the fresh air we need to live in this world. Forests are fascinating and amazing ecosystems.

Day 7: I am grateful for all the artists out there. What would our world look like without music? How would cities look like without street artists? And paintings, drawings, sculptures. Without art, our world would be dark and depressing. Artists bring colors, joy, and happiness into our lives.

Meanwhile, Dennett had a similar prompt going on at Weeds & Wildflowers asking us to write a thank you letter to a person close to us. With the same goal in mind. To show more gratitude in life. Here is my response with three thank-you letters:

The Shortform had also a writing prompt going on this November. The 10-day shortform challenge started by Tom Fenske also wanted us to note down what we are grateful for in life. Read my response in 150 words here:
