Gratitude
My irrelevant wants in a vast universe
We live on a relatively small spinning rock Orbiting a star somewhere in the vastness of space
In our Milky Way galaxy alone there are an estimated 40 billion planets That might support some form of life And between 250–500 billion stars That’s just in our galaxy In our little slice of heaven
I know what you’re thinking
How many galaxies are in the universe then? The Hubble telescope has been able to detect at least 100 billion galaxies But scientists believe that number is much higher
And, wait for it… There are an estimated 30–70 billion trillion (yes, billion trillion) Stars in the seeable universe
This universe we live in is plucking gigantic
Oh, and that’s just in our dimension Some respected quantum physicists believe there are countless Literally countless dimensions The so-called “many worlds” theory
I still know what you’re thinking
“Okay, Sean, my mind is sufficiently blown, so what’s your point?” It’s simple
Despite the unfathomable HUGEness of the universe I just want to own a beach house in the tropics With a copious supply of high quality coffee And Magnum PI shirts
And to know why the higher powers that be Decided to make our noses and ears bigger As we age While our muscles and hairlines atrophy
Knowing this, my friends, will bring me gratitude
