Well, dear friend, we made it.

Here we are.

2022

We made it through to another year.

Let’s take a moment to acknowledge how far we have come, the difficulties, losses — and gains we’ve been through, especially the last two years.

Let’s take a moment to settle into our body’s so we can fully appreciate and acknowledge the significance of this moment.

We are here.

We are alive.

We are together.

Over the last two years, thousands of lives were cut-short, homes were disrupted, jobs lost, and life turned upside.

Yet, we are still here.

I invite you to look around your immediate environment.

Notice your feet on the floor, your hands resting wherever they reach.

Notice your buttocks on the chair, the surface you are sitting on.

What sounds can you hear in the space?

Take a moment to orientate yourself in this present moment of togetherness.

And if you feel called, I encourage you to say a quiet word of thanks.

A quiet word of gratitude and appreciation for yourself.

Bring to mind any friends, family, strangers even who have supported you, particularly over the last two years.

And say in your heart a quiet word of thanks for 2021.

It has been challenging.

The light hasn’t always shone bright, and many days you may have felt lonely, angry and afraid.

Yet, somehow, we made it through.

My hope and prayer are for peace, brighter days, more joy, more rest, unity, hope, and restoration.

Now, we’ve settled ourselves.

I want to tell you how I am easing into 2022.

Recently, a friend mentioned the value of reflecting and acknowledging everything we are grateful for in 2021.

I must admit, when I first heard this nugget, my first thought was,

“yeah, that’s a pleasant idea, but I ain’t got time — or energy to sit down and think about everything that happened last year.

That will take forever.

Let me start 2022 with a clean sheet and move on.”

Yet, the more I sat with my friend’s words and noticed what was happening in my body, something stirred.

Has that ever happened to you?

You hear something; it sounds like a good idea, but you don’t have the energy — or motivation to follow through.

So you bookmark it, swipe right and say you’ll come back to it another day!

That was me.

However, her words were like a gravitational force.

Something was drawing me to sit down and do this “gratitude exercise”.

So, I did.

I set myself the challenge that before even thinking about “2022 New Year resolutions and intentions”, I would take my time, reflect over 2021 and journal 100 things I am grateful for in 2021.

And, to make it easier on myself, I made this 2021 Gratitude List part of my morning routine.

I spent the last ten mornings meditating and reflecting on the past year.

Making 10 bullet points every day in my journal about what I was grateful for in 2021.

And when I finally finished this list, I felt so proud of myself, and I wanted to share my insights with you to see if you’d be interested in creating your 2021 Gratitude List!
