The poem concludes with a tribute to nature's performance, with the grass and water as central actors in this earthly play.

Opinions

  • The author appreciates the natural state of the grass, which grows freely and unkempt.
  • There is a sense of peace and reflection found in the isolation of the small island reached by the footbridge.
  • The river's vigorous movement is depicted as both entertaining and thought-provoking, especially in times of contemplation.
  • The presence of a long-dead pine tree, still active in the river's currents, suggests a reverence for the enduring aspects of nature.

The grass is green this cold mid-autumn morn’ where on this rocky raging river bank this patch of lawn has always grown unshorn and I have this old footbridge here to thank

for reaching this small island in the sun to feel that spray while sitting on the grass this splashing river frenzy always fun especially with thoughts at an impasse.

A long-dead pine tumbled from far above still bobbing and rocking in these raging rain-swollen currents of this river’s love while green and grassy cousins are staging

another one of nature’s earthly plays with grass and water acting, hear my praise.
