“Grandma is there!”

Kids can see their grandma, who shouldn’t be there.

The author generated this image using DALI-E.

It is a story I heard from a client when I was a therapist. Let’s call this client Mr. Asada, which is a pseudonym.

Mr. Asada had a boy and a girl at the time. Both were still young and went to kindergarten. Mr. Asada, his wife, and their two children, four, lived in a newly built house.

The two young kids started pointing to a corner of the living room ceiling and saying,

“Grandma is there.”

But there was no grandma there.

When they said, “Grandma is there,” it seemed like both kids could see the same thing simultaneously. It went on for several months.

Mr. Asada wondered if there was a ghost in this new house that only the children could see. Mr. Asada got a medium to come to the home through a friend.

According to the medium, Mr. Asada’s mother’s spirit visits that living room occasionally. Mr. Asada’s mother lives with his father, about 100 kilometers from their house.

The spirit wasn’t evil. The medium said Mr. Asada’s mother was just worried about how her grandchildren were growing up, and her strong feelings turned into a spirit that came there.

Hearing this, Mr. Asada took his two children and wife to visit his parents’ house the following weekend. Mr. Asada’s parents were pleased to see their grandchildren after a long time.

After that visit, the children stopped saying,

“Grandma is there.”
