Gram And I Were In Love

Headlines from James Wolf…. Starlight prompts and Lodestar Gazette

Starlight Prompts and Lodestar Gazette

Welcome friends to our weekly Book Club; we have much to discuss. This week's book, which I hope you all read, “Love and Goodies”, was written by my cousin James Wolf. It is a story of love, jealousy, and revenge.

As you know, wolves have been scapegoats ( no offence intended to goats) for many years. Pigs' determination to rehash the old tale about misunderstandings and heavy colds has caused us years of anguish. The term “Wolf whistle”, is truly ridiculous. We cannot whistle!

I invited James Wolf to speak about his book and answer any questions. Here he is now… James, it is great to see you; please say hello to our Book Club members.

James speaks… Thank you. I was encouraged to write this book to expose Red Riding Hood for the meddling, jealous young woman she is—innocent, hardly. James takes a breath and continues.

There are old Grandmothers, but some are youthful, lively young Grandmothers, like my Gram. Gram was very much alone after she and her cheating husband separated. He should have been called a WOLF, not me. She needed some quiet time, alone time. She still had the rest of her life ahead of her. She purchased a lovely cottage in the woods. It was a place to meditate, cook, garden, and start again.

She was quite the gardener, and that is how we met. We shared an interest in planting herbs and vegetables. One thing led to another… we became much more than friends. We were aware that her family would never approve, but she explained to her daughter and granddaughter that we should please allow her privacy and allow her to live as she chose. She consented to visits by appointment and food deliveries.

I tried hard to stay out of the family dynamics. They would never accept me. We kept everything very quiet. We tried to discourage Red and her meddling surprise visits. She was a very nosy young woman, loose with her morals. The old joke about “red” being a seductive color, certainly suited her. What a piece of work!

The particular story that made it into all the books was caused by a surprise visit. I tried to distract Red in the forest, but she was determined to cause trouble. Gram and I were in bed together. I commented on her beautiful eyes, nose, and loving mouth. It was just “Love talk.” Believe me, Gram, in her negligee, was far from threatened or scared of me.

Anyway, the brat didn’t knock. She used the spare key, and when she saw us, she started to scream about our dalliance. The woodsman, her boyfriend, heard the commotion. It was all I could do to get out of there, fast. You might think I was a coward, but he had a gun, and I didn’t. It was all a setup to shame Gram.

Gram never spoke to Red again. We continued our lives and our love. That is my true story, which should have been written long ago. Love conquered all for Gram and the Wolf. James paused, drank a few sips of water, and stared at the book club members. Slowly, they stood one by one, applauding him. Seeing my friends finally hearing the truth made me teary and happy. Well, loyal Book Club members, next week we will examine another book, the true story of those treacherous 3 blind mice. Have a safe trip through the forest. Happy reading.
