Graduations Are Special Occasions

They recognize achievement

It will soon be time for graduations again

Graduations from high school or college mark an achievement in life. During the year of the pandemic, many schools did not hold graduation exercises. Students either received recognition in a virtual ceremony or they may have driven up in a car to receive their diploma with social distancing. It was an unusual graduation for many.

This year should be different since the pandemic seems to be drawing to a close. Although things have not gotten completely back to normal, some schools will probably have in person graduations.

It requires a lot of work and effort to obtain a college degree. Graduations are held to recognize the achievements that students have made. They are the culmination of a lot of work and effort.

Young people who pursue a higher education and graduate are to be commended for their accomplishments. Older people are sometimes also graduating after deciding to go back to school. They should be congratulated as well.

It has been my privilege to attend several graduations for grandchildren from high school and college, including at a university in New York City and a graduation at the U.S. Air Force Academy in Colorado. They were impressive ceremonies which were held before the COVID pandemic affected graduations throughout the United States and the world.

Census records show that just over a third of Americans have obtained at least a four-year college degree. As you go about town and visit stores and businesses, you can see that there are MANY jobs out there that do not require a college degree.

As someone who taught Economics to college students for ten years, I have a lot of admiration for students. It is a great accomplishment when people are able to graduate from college and even get advanced degrees. Some people make a lot of sacrifices to get a degree. It is not easy for many, but it is definitely a worthy goal.

It will soon be time for graduations once again. Hopefully, the graduates can enjoy the celebrations this year since COVID took a toll on the ceremonies last year.
