Grab Your Readers by the…title
5 reasons your title matters the most!

- The holy grail of readership is your title. Why? Because I don’t know you. Nobody does. Your title is your red carpet dress, your perfect wingman/woman, Oprah’s Bookclub on the cover of your book. If you don’t care about your title, you’ve neglected your story. It’s like taking your kid to a fancy restaurant and forgetting your wallet. Don’t do it.
- How many times have you kicked yourself because your title didn’t represent your story? Soooo many. Think of all those times nobody read your story, and you wonder why. You look back over your story and it’s a beautiful thing, but your title is like a wormy handshake. Nobody else wanted to touch that story with a ten-foot pole.
- Is it your title's fault that your story didn’t get read? Yep. It’s your title's fault.
- First impressions matter-in titles. Even in life, you may get a second chance, but with titles, no second chances. There’s no five o’clock light to take the wrinkles out of your title. A title is love at first sight or hard pass at first sight.
- Some of your best work will get lost because of a weak title. Your best work is not going to forgive you either. It’s like your one child who remembers everything you ever did to screw up her life. That story won’t forget that title that ruined its chances. That story could have been somebody, but it had an inferior parent, I mean a lame title.
