Google’s Latest Update Slashed My Traffic By Over 50%

Here’s how I plan to recover from it

Created with Bing AI Image Creator

Yep, that’s right. Google’s helpful content update that impacted so many digital publishers also impacted me!

I wasn’t prepared for it at all.

The previous Google updates that have happened had little to no impact on my blog.

But this one.

It was a major doozy.

And, my traffic tanked by over 50% because of it. I’m down to my first year’s blog traffic numbers and I was so shaken I almost considered selling my site!

I got a hold of myself and realized that wouldn’t be a wise decision.

I draw $10K to $20K a month from my content business, much of which is from blogging and I don’t want to throw that away, even for a six-figure payday.

So, I crafted a plan to recover from my traffic hit.

Here’s what I’m doing…

How I plan to recover from a 50% drop in website traffic

The fact that my blog was impacted means that my content isn’t what Google is looking for.

So, I must change my ways.

Here’s how…

1. Refine my content

This is about going through each of my 400+ blog posts and doing an audit.

This is going to take a lot of time but, it’s totally worth it.

What I’ll be doing?

  • Scrapping poor content that doesn’t match my blog or align with my audience
  • Updating and improving existing blog posts

2. Add YouTube videos

I plan to add a YouTube video to each of my blog posts that remain on my blog. This is a simple fix that I think will have an immediate impact.

3. Improve monetization

While I’m updating my content and making the blog better, I’m going to review monetization, too.

I don’t have ads on my blog so, I want to make every effort to monetize in other ways as best I can while still serving my audience.

I want each post to be a money-making opportunity for the business, which can be:

  • Growing my email list
  • Selling a product or service
  • Promoting an affiliate offer

4. Focus on existing content

Rather than adding a ton of blog posts to my site, my focus will be on improving existing content.

If you take content that is already ranking or seasoned on Google and improve it, you can see an uptick in visibility fast.

Much faster than waiting for Google to index a new post and then slowly climbing your way up to page one of search results, if you ever get there.

5. Adding images

Another quick win.

I want to add images but not just any images.

Previously, I used a lot of stock photos. I want to start taking my own photos to use on my blog.

This is going to be a challenge, as I’ve never done this before, but, it’s easy enough to snap some pics of my home office, workspace, and other relevant photos.

I also want to use more AI-created images.

Bing AI Image Creator has been my go-to lately. They do human images really well most of the time, and I love many of the photos they’ve created for me so far.

Here are some examples…

What do you think?

This is what I’m starting with. I’m sure more things will come into play as I start getting into the weeds of it all.

Have you been impacted by Google’s helpful content update?
