Summary

Dennett reflects on the impact of Daylight Savings Time on morning routines and photography, inviting others to join a personal photography challenge that emphasizes authenticity over perfection.

Abstract

The website content discusses Dennett's personal experience with the end of Daylight Savings Time, expressing relief that mornings will be brighter for daily walks and photography. Dennett initiated a photography challenge in July, encouraging participants to capture and share daily life through images that are not necessarily professional but are genuine representations of their experiences. The challenge is described as a meditative practice that enhances attention to detail, with the aim of noticing things previously overlooked. Dennett acknowledges other photographers who have joined the challenge, posting their work regularly or occasionally, and expresses gratitude for their participation. The article concludes with a series of Dennett's own photographs from a week in Florida, each accompanied by a one-word theme, and an invitation for others to share their worlds through photography.

Opinions

  • The photography challenge is not a competition; it's about personal growth and the joy of capturing the essence of daily life.

  • Using a camera is suggested as a form of meditation, a tool to sharpen attention and notice details that might otherwise go unnoticed.
  • There is an inclusive and communal aspect to the challenge, with appreciation expressed for all participants, regardless of their frequency of posting.
  • Dennett's own photographs are shared as examples, each with a descriptive caption that encapsulates the essence of the image.
  • The article ends with a personal and inviting tone, encouraging readers to engage with the challenge and share their perspectives through photography.

Photography Challenge — A Photo A Day

Goodbye Daylight Savings Time

My week in photos

Coming home from work in the dark will be disheartening, but I am pleased that the sun will rise before noon! Exaggeration, yes, but my 7 am walks were truly in the dark for the past two months. Not pleasant for me or my dog and a detriment to morning photography!

For any newbies, I began this photography challenge in July. The idea is to take photos every day and post the ones that best represent your days. This isn’t a contest. No prizes are given for the most professional pictures. In fact, I hope your photos aren’t perfect. These images should represent you and your world — beautiful, ugly, mysterious, bland, surprising.

Use your camera as a meditation tool. Allow it to sharpen your attention to details. I promise you will notice things you never saw before.

I choose one word to go with my daily image. But, it’s not a requirement.

A few photographers have joined me in this challenge. Some post regularly, others occasionally. I am grateful for their participation:

Erika Burkhalter, Eileen Vorbach Collins, Anne Bonfert, Tracy Aston, Rachael Ann Sand, Sasha Meyer, June Nguyen, Lisa Bolin, and Denise G.

I think that’s everyone, but if your name is missing, please let me know.

Now, walk with me through my week in Florida:

Thanks for letting me share a little of my world with you.

Won’t you share your world with me?
