Dominic Lucas was anti-social and often called weird. He had no friends, and he didn’t talk a lot. Every Tuesday, he would go to The Splendid Place. A cute homely café a few blocks from his apartment. He would sit at the same table, order the same thing, coffee and cinnamon wholewheat bagel.

He would sit and read for an hour, then get up and leave without touching his order. He would always leave a ten-dollar tip. Sofia Bellany smiled each time he came in. He would be eyeing her while pretending to be reading his book. So one day, she decided to ask: You come here every Tuesday, at the same time And sit in the corner at the back looking so divine You’d attempt to read your book upside down Always smiling in my direction even when I frown Yes, I see the light in your eyes calling out to me But I also see the fear, longing to be free
