Gold Watch and Goodbye — When to Retire from Work?
Retirement: it’s not one size fits all; finding the right path for you.
They say age is just a number.
If age is only a number, when is the right age to hang up your hat, i.e., retire?
If you plan to say “gold watch and goodbye,” there are many factors to consider.

# Factor 1
Retirement age in various countries is different. If you live in Australia, depending on when you are born, it is between 65–67 years.
In the United States, it is between 62 and 67.
However, it does not mean you must retire once you reach retirement age.
Some people choose to work longer because of individual circumstances.
#Factor 2
It’s essential to consider your physical and mental health when deciding to retire.
If you have health issues impacting your ability to work, it may be time to hang up your boots.
Additionally, if you feel burnt out, consider stepping aside permanently.
#Factor 3
Your finances would be one of the most significant factors to consider.
Do you have sufficient funds in your bank, investments or superannuation to support yourself during retirement?
And how about your pension or social security, depending on your living situation?
If you need more time, speak to your financial planner to make an informed decision about your retirement finances.

#Factor 4
It is crucial to think about your social life.
Will you miss the daily interactions with your colleagues, or will you be happy spending more time with friends and family?
Many retirees need help figuring out what to do with their spare time.
If they don’t have a hobby, side hustle or part-time work and end up alone at home.

# Factor 5
This is the most crucial part.
If you are unsure, try out retirement for a while, similar to a “test run”.
It could involve taking a sabbatical from work or cutting back on your hours.
Alternatively, switch to part-time work — to get a sense of what life will be like once you officially retire.
After taking a “test run”, you may like the idea of retirement or end up hating it.

My thoughts
If you don’t want to work past 80 like President Joe Biden or 76 like Donald Trump, then it’s important to make the right decision for yourself.
After all, retirement is your opportunity to finally say “gold watch and goodbye” to the working world and embrace a fulfilling and relaxing retirement.
Gather as much information as possible, and then you can decide when it is time to retire.
