Summary

The narrative "God's Mirror" poetically describes a morning in the life of a divine being, who, upon waking, grapples with the transition from the clarity and comfort of dreams to the physical realities of the waking world.

Abstract

In the allegorical story "God's Mirror," the protagonist, referred to as God, experiences a reluctant awakening from a deeply satisfying dream state. The dreams are portrayed as a realm of truth and emotional authenticity, free from the illusions and hardships of the physical world. Despite the desire to linger in this state, God's full bladder hastens the return to consciousness. The narrative emphasizes the missed opportunity to infuse the new day with positive intentions due to the urgency of bodily needs. Upon using the bathroom and looking into the mirror, God is initially taken aback but then appreciates the reflection as a magnificent creation. The story concludes with a reminder that this is a work of fiction, suggesting a contemplative exploration of the divine within the human experience.

Opinions

  • The author conveys a sense of reluctance and longing in God's desire to remain in the dream state, valuing its emotional depth and clarity over the physical world.
  • There is an opinion that the transition from dreams to wakefulness involves a loss of connection with a deeper reality and a sense of wholeness.
  • The narrative suggests that there is a significant opportunity upon waking to consciously shape the day with positive energy, which is often overlooked in the routine of daily life.
  • The moment of shock followed by appreciation when God looks in the mirror indicates a complex relationship with self-perception, highlighting both surprise and admiration for one's own existence.
  • The story implies that the divine, represented as God, experiences human-like emotions and physical limitations, blurring the lines between the divine and the mortal.
  • By labeling the piece as fiction, the author may be inviting readers to interpret the story symbolically, as a reflection on the nature of consciousness, identity, and the divine within the human psyche.

God’s Mirror

Awakening with a full bladder

The alarm clock went off and God begrudgingly began waking up, reaching over to the bedside table to turn off the alarm. With the alarm off, God huddled under the covers slowly waking up. It was a cold morning and God’s bladder was full but God didn’t want to get out from under the warm sheets. God did not want to wake up.

In a state halfway between dreams and wakefulness, God reviewed the dreams of just a few minutes before and wanted to return to them. They were a reality that was natural and seemed to take no physical effort. They replayed the dramas of life that made God feel whole and part of it all. Dreams were honest and seemed to be controlled by a reality that was beyond the illusions and emotional drama and physical hardship of the awake state. The emotions and drama were still there but they could be seen through and understood. They could be understood simply through feeling them. Everything made sense and nothing seemed hidden. The love beneath every action could be felt. God loved dreams.

But the dreams started fading away. Sad, God tried to hold onto the dreams but the more God awoke, the more the dreams faded away. Soon, God’s eyes were wide awake and God’s thoughts were on the new day.

Thanks to God’s full bladder, God did not take the time to implant joy and love on the thoughts of the new day. Upon awakening in the morning is not only a great time to review one’s experiences in the dream world but it is also the perfect time to program the energies of the new day by blessing the new day. But on this day God dismissed both opportunities and got up out of bed and went quickly to the bathroom. God sat down on the toilet and peed. As she sat peeing the last vestiges of her dreams floated across her mind and she felt that she could easily slip right back into those dreams. But then she snapped out of it. She stood up and flushed the toilet. God went over to the bathroom sink and looked into the mirror above the sink.

And she was momentarily shocked by what she saw! But as the shock wore off she smiled as she reveled in her magnificent creation.
