Summary

The website content is a reflective and satirical narrative exploring the concept of a deity grappling with the imperfections of humanity, questioning the divine's role in human flaws and behaviors.

Abstract

The text presents a fictional dialogue between God and humanity, personifying God as a frustrated creator lamenting the discordant nature of his creation. It delves into the inherent contradictions of human nature, suggesting that the divine may have inadvertently instilled too much greed, lust, and envy in humans. The narrative humorously implies that expecting harmonious coexistence from such complex and often negative ingredients is naive. The author, Carlo Zeno, uses this religious concept as a "vehicle" for exploring broader existential questions and acknowledges the fun in playing with such ideas while maintaining a stance of comfortable agnosticism. Zeno expresses gratitude towards his readers and Lucy Dan for the platform, offering links to support his work and inviting readers to explore more of his writings.

Opinions

  • The narrative conveys a critical view of the traditional image of God as an old patriarch, questioning the wisdom and benevolence of such a deity in the face of human strife.
  • It suggests that the flaws and conflicts within humanity may be a direct result of the divine's own design, implying a level of divine responsibility for human imperfections.
  • The text humorously challenges the notion of divine infallibility, portraying God as somewhat culpable for the "shit storm" of human existence due to the flawed ingredients used in creation.
  • The author expresses a personal comfort with the unknown aspects of divinity, neither confirming nor denying the existence or nature of God.
  • Carlo Zeno shows appreciation for his audience and the opportunity to share his work, indicating a humble and thankful attitude towards his readers and collaborators.

God Was Having A Bad Day

Why is My Earth so perverse? Why can’t they just all get along?

Fat chance, Daddy. Our brains were designed otherwise.

Were you not paying attention to the mix of ingredients You made us with?

What do You expect to happen, Daddy, when you knit us with nerves of greed,

lust, desire, envy, fear, and paranoia? A happy drum circle in the park?

Does the lion sit down for tea with the deer? You say You made us and hoped for the best.

Playing a bit of hide and seek with Yourself, are you Daddy?

I’ll just put these two neighboring cats in the same room together and hope for the best!

So what if resources are limited and I created cats with teeth and claws, sharp eyes and hot passion?

I’m a benevolent God!

Who are You kidding, Big Daddy?

So now You are getting tired of Your experiment, blaming the results on faulty parts.

Who made these parts, you old Wisecrack? Did they fall from the sky?

You wouldn’t have kneaded so much evil in your delicious loaves if you didn’t think it tasted so good!

I see You with Your bib up there wrapped around Your divine neck, brandishing Your fork and knife

Who do You think You’re fooling telling us You’re now disowning us?

Yeah right, just like I’m going to disown my own foot. Sorry Papa, this one’s on You.

If You don’t like this absolute shit storm we’re all creating here on Earth

You shouldn’t have had so much fun in creating us with so many flawed, fiendish ingredients.

Excuse my bit of fun playing with the old religious concept of God as an old Creator Patriarch in the sky. I mostly chose it as a vehicle to have a dialogue.

I do not pretend to know if God is a He or a She or an It or a Band of Multiple Rebels in the Sky or nonexistent altogether. I am comfortable with not knowing.

And finally, thanks to all of my readers, as you are appreciated more than you know. Also, thank you to Lucy Dan 蛋小姐 (she/her/她) for providing this platform. You can support me here, or take a leap into two more poems below 🙏
