Goals & Gratitude
Salvaging What’s Left of 2020!
As we enter Aug, I realize that the year is almost over, rushing past in a never-ending roller coaster of panic and confusion. As I reflect back, personally 2020 has been my WORST year and paradoxically my BEST too!
- Hubby and I lost a dear uncle to Covid-19. (Nightmare!) | We had a healthy and adorable girl! (Blessing)
- A project that was going to be my ticket to promotion at work got shelved indefinitely. (bummer!)| I received an innovation award for something I worked on the side as a personal passion project. (elated)
These were some of the major incidents that happened to me in 2020, along with countless other smaller events too! In all, this year almost seems like a quote out of Charles Dickens:
It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness, it was the epoch of belief, it was the epoch of incredulity, it was the season of Light, it was the season of Darkness, it was the spring of hope, it was the winter of despair. — Charles Dickens, Tale of Two Cities.
But I’m an extreme optimist if nothing else. So I decided to motivate myself by focusing on some small, easy wins for the rest of the year.
- GOALS — Small achievable goals, so 2020 does not feel like a failure. Also as a healthy distraction to focus my attention AWAY from all that is wrong with the world.
- GRATITUDE — Log some happy moments at least once a week, to remind me that even though life seems bleak, there are many things to be thankful for!
GOALS:
- Write at least one post per week. This should be very easy, given that I am planning to restart my weekly editorial collections for ILLUMINATION publication this week.
- Log a weekly photo of babyM on my cloud drive, to use in a video for her first birthday. Again, as a first-time parent, I am obsessed with my newborn and am taking photos daily (if not hourly), so this is almost “cheating”. But hey, I did say “easy” goals! :D
- Respond to someone else’s writing challenge at least once per month. There are so many amazing challenges, not to mention Timothy Key’s Gaia project. I am bursting with ideas but limiting myself to one response because babies take a lot of time and I don’t expect to get much time to write.
- Restart editorial work for ILLUMINATION — easy, peasy! Reading is the one thing I am still able to do! :D
GRATITUDE:
Here are some things I am grateful for so far:
- Birth of babyM — Woohoo! Pregnancy was stressful and terrifying due to Covid19 constraints, isolation, and the “new normal” from the lockdowns. But I am so delighted that babyM came out hale and healthy. Her cute smile has made this whole year a massive success! :D
- Grateful for all the amazing friends and family who sent their thoughts, prayers, gifts, and advice. Many were folks I have been lax about keeping in touch, so I am very fortunate to have an abundance of people who truly care for me!
- The Innovation award — I was genuinely surprised to be nominated.
- Grateful for the chance to be an editor at ILLUMINATION. The quality, genres, topic variety, and diversity of writers are brilliant. Worth my Medium subscription’s money in GOLD! Thanks, Dr Mehmet Yildiz for giving me this opportunity.
- Sold record number of my ebooks on “Data Science Jobs” in June and July despite zero promotion. Plus, a number of readers reached out with positive feedback, which was even more satisfying! (links in bio)
