Finding peace in your day’s accomplishments.
Goals Beyond Reach-Western Haiku
Hours given insufficient to complete ends frustrate but productivity and satisfaction are to be gained in next breaths.
Pale moonlight calling tears Scouring dreams for lost chances before sleep New horizons born for morrow’s wake
Often there aren’t enough hours in the day to accomplish everything I set out to get done. There I find myself questioning self-efficacy and ability. Guilt for being me attempts to rob the spark I need to be content.
But, reflections and perceptions get clouded. Hungry, tired, frustrated demons peck, self-stomping and ridiculing in incessant rage. And then the turn occurs.
For the unquenchable hope in my heart and deep in yours will not be quieted or stifled by irrational doubts.
We rise in a word, a smile, and the observation to take pleasure in recognizing the wonder of effort and achievements we’ve made.
See the greatness and splendor in each blessing we have. And, we have many blessings around us all the time.
Waking up is a blessing. Writing and creating are great values. Reading, eating, hearing a bird, cleaning the bathroom are all worthy of enjoying and counting as terrific performances for the day.
Tonight I began to feel I had not done enough for the day. The story I wanted to complete will have to wait until tomorrow. All the dishes didn’t get cleaned. Not enough reading. And, on and on my selfconscious barbs assaulted.
But, then seeing happened. I ran my lawn business, completed 1/2 of a short story, celebrated with my wife on our wedding anniversary, played with my daughter, sent my other daughter off to go camping with the Girl Scouts, cleaned the bathrooms in our house, and more. A very busy day.
Now, I’m exhausted and found a wedge of last-energy to write this piece.
It’s been a fantastic day and when the sun rises again many fabulous graces will touch all our hearts, activities, and bless us with breath and the opening of eyes.
We all have peace and contentment but we must open our hearts and let them flourish there.
