Go Viral on Google with Your Medium Articles
My Medium article about a weight loss diet has gone viral
I have found that some of my articles seem to go viral on the Google search engine getting thousands of views. It seems that Medium articles can go viral if they have the right keywords incorporated into them.
One of my articles has received 13.8K views since I published it on Medium in February 2019. Today’s update (May 2022), has gained even more views because I have experimented with the article by placing it at the top of my Medium profile page. This has obviously gained me some earnings too. Here is the photo below.
The article stats on Medium (above) has gained 83K views and has earned me $13.92 so far as of today (May 2022).
I suspect it has something to do with SEO (search engine optimization) which I worked out some time ago. When I first published the article on my website it went viral there too. It went crazy getting hundreds of page views every single day and it still does. It earns me money all the time on my website because of google ads.

Although this article has 13.8K views at the start, it hadn’t gotten that many views on Medium’s Partnership Program back from 2019 to 2020. Therefore, it didn’t earn that many claps before the new payment plan came into effect (see picture below taken in 2019).
Of course, since the new payment plan, the article has earned some money from pageviews from the program. It’s still a fairly small amount as it’s only earned $13.92 so far so it is picking up because I have placed the article at the top of my Medium profile page. Before that, it didn’t earn anything.
I published the article based on a weight loss diet plan on Medium myself without using a publication. I’m not sure if it got curated or not because back then I didn’t know that much about Medium.
I’m not sure if articles that rank high on Google will earn money here on Medium. It gets the views but will it earn money using the Medium Partnership Program? Are members seeing it? If you place old articles at the top of your Medium profile page members will definitely see it and may click on it and then you will earn money.
So far, the article has earned a slight amount of money and it might increase now it is at the top of my profile page. Articles on Medium that rank high on Google might have a chance to earn you money on Medium.
I did publish it on my website where I earned money because of Google Adsense and other advertising that I used.
Do you publish your article in one of Medium’s publications?
Yes, publishing it in a publication would get better views and earn you more money in the Partnership Program, or at least that’s what I have learned from others who have written about it here on Medium.
My point is, even if you write an article and it goes viral then it doesn’t mean you will earn money from it unless you get into a publication or the article is on the front page where members will see it. Of course, you can earn money if someone becomes a new member of the Medium Partnership Program immediately after reading one of your high-ranking articles. There is no saying that a high-ranking article in Google’s search engine will make you any money at all on Medium. But if you are a member of the Medium Partner Program then others will see your high-ranking article and may want to click on it. So, in the end, you may earn from it plus you can get new members to join Medium from that article if you leave a link at the bottom of it.
So anything is possible. I believe it will get better and the article will earn much more!
