Go Through the Door or Just Give Up Already

It’s either time to believe you are capable or give up thinking you are.

A quote from Les Brown:

“Most people knock on the door of their dreams once, then run away before anyone has a chance to open the door. But if you keep knocking, persistently and endlessly, eventually the door will open.”

Show your dream that you will keep knocking until someone opens the damn door. Along the way, people will come and help you, like a mentor or faithful supporter.

They will bring new tools: saws that can cut through the first four layers of cement to the door, machine guns that can kill the monsters in the way, and potions that will put the awakened dragon to sleep.

You can think of your supporters (such as family and good friends) as people who bring you food and water along your journey to opening the door; people who talk to you in your off time and encourage you to keep going.

Your faith will keep you patient as everyone helps you along your journey, and they will help. Someone will. And you will get one step closer every time.

But in the end, you will be the only one who can open that door.

You can take as many steps in the right direction as you want, but there will always be a door to go through.

Each door will be harder and harder to open.

You get to decide if the door you are at will be the last one you open.

You get to decide if you will give up and never open the current door in front of you.

You essentially get to decide what two doors you will die between the one you just opened or the one in front.

Whatever you decide, please just hurry up and choose already.

If you don’t think you are capable of opening that next door, quit.

If you do think you’re capable but don’t do anything about it, still quit.

If you see a different door you would rather try opening, think about it for a minute: is that a door you really want to go through or an escape route because you didn’t want to face the door in front of you?

If you indeed think you are capable and try every way you can to open the door in front of you, but can’t get it open, you have a choice: You can quit, sure, but you should know that even though it may feel you did everything you could, you didn’t.

You should know that that door has to open some way or else it wouldn’t be there.

You should know that there are people on the other side of that door. The rare few, tired of watching others fail, who are hoping you will join their ranks. Amongst those few are the ones who believe in their hearts you will fail like everyone else and aren’t betting on you at all.

Either way, you have the choice to let others down or prove others wrong. Both of those options shouldn’t get too much of your attention, though. The only thing that matters here is that the fact that people are on the other side of that door means it's possible for you to be there as well.

What’s probably more exciting is if there isn’t anyone on the other side, which can be seen as an opportunity to be the first.

Your choice ultimately comes out to whether or not you will let yourself down from what you choose.

You kind of have to think of dreams in a negative sense. You have to think of it as someone or something you are keen on beating down into actualization.

I want you to enjoy this fight because I want nothing to stop you from doing what you want.

Make the dream out to be like a person who is playing “hard to get”, and patiently wait for them to admit they like you.

Patience is key.

We are so impatient. Chasing big dreams requires a super super super super super super patient you, okay?

There is no shortcut. It will take a long time.

That doesn’t mean you won’t experience success and good fortune on the way there.

In fact, you will be working so hard that you are bound to see tons of success but twice as many failures.

If this is hard for you to grapple with, if you think it’s too late, if you think you’ve wasted so much of your time already, you’re wrong.

You’re just…wrong.

It’s never too late. Nothing is wasted.

The only thing that is wasted, though, is your complaining. If you still don't believe you are capable, then maybe dream-chasing isn’t for you.

Maybe it’s time you move on and join the ranks of millions of others with unactualized dreams and monuments of regret.

Why set out to do something that you never believed you can do?

Don’t waste your time.

For those who are ready to take the road less traveled, remember this:

Never give up on a dream just because of the time it will take to accomplish it. The time will pass anyway.

— Earl Nightingale

I pray and wish you good fortune on your journey. Embrace it.

“Why is it important to chase big dreams?”

Because you are capable, and the time will pass anyway.

That’s why.

Make the most of it,

or not…
