The Global education week is the full week that is held every year in the 3rd week of November.

It aims to raise awareness of the need for a sustainable and fair world through the use of the theme of global education to promote positive change.

The themes that are discussed during the week include:

  • a call to share solutions and rethink habits around our lifestyle, spending, and consumption.
  • Discovering and researching new innovative ways.

In preparation and during the week solutions are shared to rethink our habits and ways of living, spending, and consuming but also finding new ways of education and socialization.

Organize A Global Education Week

In order to organize a global education week in your country, you need to contact national coordinators which can be found listed according to the country.

Keep in mind that this applies only to the members of the Council of Europe’s member states.

Global Education Week Events

Events include:

  • Live debates and talks

Global Education Week In Turkey

In Turkey, there are sessions that are held on a daily basis throughout the full week.

These sessions are designed to help young people understand and grasp important themes such as gender, climate change, human rights and refugees, volunteering, and sustainability.

Activities are all online and engagement tools will be implemented such as gamification, digital storytelling, and design thinking.

Global Education Week In Finland

Unfortunately, an official Global Education Week has not been held in Finland.

However, I found something slightly similar called Helsinki Education week which is held only in the first week of November.

Some of the proposed activities would be hosting an interactive workshop 2 x during the week which is held in English and hosts a few of Finland’s sustainability experts that can lead the event.

Preferably workshop will be online so all those interested can participate.

Also, it would be ideal if each municipally would host their mini-lecture on global education week in universities that would work to raise awareness for the initiative.
