GiaB Prompt #7: Man Made Wonders of the World

Thousands of years ago, You dazzled the passers-by, With your golden point of light Atop a staggering pyramid of shining stones.

A mesmerizing sight, All were beholden to your power, To capture the imagination, Glistening in the sunlight.

A structure unprecedented, You were a gift to all who came upon you, Basking in the glory, Of your unimaginable stature.

Even today, in your wind-worn form, You stand tall despite the damage of time, Bringing upon all dreams of grandeur, From your towering heights.

I have always been fascinated by the Great Pyramid of Giza in Egypt. It just so happens that my son is studying the pyramids in his social studies class. We have enjoyed talking about different theories as to how they were built. Most amazing was the very plausible theory that waterways were used to help construct and transport the blocks at the construction site.

I also learned that 4,000 years ago, the pyramid had shiny, smooth sides of gleaming limestone and even had a golden top. What a sight that must have been! It is so much fun to imagine how it would have looked!
