Giving Back Should Be Part Of Life
It is sometimes called “Pay It Forward”
Giving help and light to someone else is admirable
Many people are helped through the trials of life by someone who decides to lend a helping hand or give a word of encouragement. Individuals and organizations are assisting others who may be not as well off.
Some people had a hard time through life but then became successful. They often will help others along the way. They are trying to “pay it forward” because they may not be able to repay the person who helped them. They help someone else who needs it along the road of life.
Pay It Forward was an American drama film which came out in 2000. It was directed by Mimi Leder and was loosely based on the novel of the same name which was written by Catherine Ryan Hyde. It stars Hayley Joel Osment as the young boy and Helen Hunt as his single alcoholic mother. Kevin Spacey stars as the social studies teacher.
When the teacher assigns the 7th grade class in Las Vegas to develop an action plan that will change the world for the better, the boy calls his plan “pay it forward.” It means that those who receive a favor will do a favor for three others rather than paying back the person who did him a favor.
The concept of “pay it forward” is a good one which can be used in daily life. Many people do small or big favors or others as a way of giving back for the good fortune or help they have received.
Warren Buffett, Bill Gates, and the other billionaires such as MacKenzie Scott who have pledged to give away much of their wealth are practicing “pay it forward.” They have received great wealth. They are helping others who need it. Life should have more of that.
Kindness and care for others should be part of life for all of us. We cannot all be billionaires who give away millions or billions of dollars, but we can all spread a little love to others. There are many opportunities to help in some small way.
A friendly hello or smile costs nothing to give, but it could make someone’s day. It is a small way to “pay it forward.”
