My journey with volunteering

An act of kindness may or may not be appreciated by people around us but it gives us a lot of satisfaction.

Dr. Gabriella Korosi wants to know what acts of kindness we have been involved with and whether our families are involved too.

In my family being kind to people, the environment and animals is our duty and we are all involved in some way or the other to make efforts to do so.

Since last month I have been participating actively in the various programs of Venu Eye Hospital. I am a board member with them and we have made several plans for the hospital.

We have a wellness center for senior citizens and a naturopathy center for people coming from any location. In addition, we also have a psychotherapy center at the hospital’s premises.

My role is to keep the wellness center alive by planning and actively making it possible to keep the wellness center interesting for the seniors to be happy in life.

I have to take them out for short picnics or a day out and arrange music and dance programs and show them movies. We have a very successful book club running which is organized by my friend.

We also organize talks with lawyers, doctors, investors, insurance agents bankers, investment bankers, and the like as requested by them.

Venu Eye Hospital is extending its services in many areas and locations. and one of the things we planned for society was to extend eye camps for free eye treatment and cataract surgeries.

Another wonderful thing that is planned is to train the blind to do a massage. I told them about my experience in Vietnam with a massage from a blind young lady.

Venu is willing to practice it too and give livelihood to the blind and give them self-respect.

Inauguration of a new unit of Venu Eye Hospital

I was invited to attend the inauguration of an eye hospital in the remote areas of a town, Venu has taken a building on rent and has purchased and furnished the place with new equipment.

They also have a staff for the new center. It is spick and span and the environment is good. The motto is to take only affordable rates from patients.

At the inauguration

I was quite surprised that a very popular actress had been invited (Lady in Green) for the inauguration. Her husband had been a very popular cricketer of his time but is now not alive. His name was Nawab Mansur Ali Pataudi.

Her husband had a stone eye. Venu looked after all its eye afflictions and he became a brand ambassador along with his wife the actress Sharmila who was present now with us.

They both devoted a lot of time to Venu programs. They used to do charity for the organization. They also promised and paid for the expenses of some eye surgeries.

They pumped in quite a lot of money from many sources and were happy to stand during the eye camp and look after the patients.

Sharmila speaks passionately about her connections with Venu Eye Hospital and how humble and caring is Ms.Tanuja Joshi who is the secretary of the society of the hospital. (The lady in blue standing first right).

She is compassionate and leaves no stone unturned in the memory of Dr. R.K. Seth who was the original founder of the hospital started in 1980 and engaged in providing preventive, curative, and rehabilitative eye care services in New Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Rajasthan and Uttarakhand.

After his death, Tanuja carried on the services and ran the hospital. Sharks are looking to take over this hospital as it is in a plum location but Tanuja wishes to continue the good work of giving good eyesight to people who need it.

Sharmila Tagore’s address was from the heart and not a mere commercial one. She spoke with conviction about the hospital and the local politician who actually acts and does not speak was also present and was coming from an action-oriented program of plastic waste reduction.

2nd October was the birth anniversary of one of the greatest leaders of Peace in the world Mahatma Gandhi who paved the way for India’s independence.

It was also the birthday of Dancing Elephants Press publication when I was busy with the good work of attending and looking at all the benefits to society. It was the call of the day and what better day for inaugurating this beautiful activity to help in giving healthy eyesight to those who need it.

On this day an oath was taken for the service of humanity. Venu Eye Hospital has actually acted and kept its commitment by organizing an eye camp recently.

I sent a WhatsApp message to many Resident Welfare Societies to ask anyone who is interested to get their eyes tested and also avail of free or partially payable services of the camp. The camp is special for Diabetic people.

This service has been specially designed for Diabetic Retinopathy. I feel the joy of working for such a wonderful organization with the spirit of service.
