Give A Man A Good Name and You Might Be Surprised
When Jesus told his disciples that they were “the salt of the earth”, they might have wondered what he meant.
Even today, we describe some people by the same metaphor. They usually have a lot of different skills and are invaluable to the life of their communities. I envy them.
However, we forget that Jesus did not apply this ascription to the gifted and pure of heart. After all, among the disciples were self-centered and covetous men, not to forget the thieves, manipulators, and those with a violent streak. Yet, Jesus saw what they will become. Later, all but one were killed for their faith.
Whether we are a parent, a supervisor, or a mentor, let us define our subordinates by our aspirations, not by their vulnerabilities. They might surprise us.
