Girls Who Code: Coding to emphasize the disparity in gender
About Campaign
Girls Who Code, an international non-profit organization, aims to bridge the gender gap in the tech industry, and as a result, one would anticipate them to be highly creative in their utilization of digital technologies. The “Girls Who Code Girls” campaign was a success, as they developed a desktop and mobile gaming platform that enables girls to build their own customized game characters using code.
With men comprising over 75% of video game developers, and despite women constituting half of all gamers, only 20% of game characters are female. This initiative provides girls and young women with an enjoyable opportunity to experiment with coding by designing characters that they would like to see represented in video games.
