Girls Care Too Soon, and Guys Care Too Late
Lost love’s regret

She, with a heart so full, reached out with hands of care, In dawn’s soft embrace, she offered her soul, bare. He, with eyes veiled by pride, saw not her earnest plea, Took her love lightly, as if it came free.
With every beat of her heart, her love did pour, But he, oblivious, always sought more. Blinded by youth, by foolishness, by playful joke, He knew not the treasure, upon which he did rest.
Then, the days grew cold, and her patience thin, For love unreciprocated wears the spirit thin. One day, she withdrew, her heart heavy with grief, Seeking solace, seeking some relief.
It was then, only then, his eyes truly saw, The depth of his foolishness, the breadth of his flaw. He reached out, but found empty space, Realized too late, he’d lost their love’s embrace.
Now, he mourns the days gone, and the love he cast aside, While she moves on, with grace and with pride, In the dance of love, timing is fate’s joke, Often, girls care too soon, and guys care too late.
This is in response to Jason Edmunds' writing prompt, where I was recently tagged. The prompt is “Write a story about relationships or love using a nature-related image, simile, or metaphor.”
