Girl by the Seaside
A Poem from the Deep

When I’m down by the seaside I sometimes see A girl
Relaxing at the shore Without a worry In the world
People pass by and don’t Even notice Her
And, it seems, she doesn’t Even notice Them
But one sunny day Not so long Ago
Our eyes met in pure And absolute Fascination
She didn’t say anything To Me
And I didn’t say anything To Her
But our minds melded like Two halves of the same Whole
In a moment that felt like An Eternity
Which I realised wasn’t Long Enough
When she broke her gaze only To jump into the ocean And disappear
I ran to the seashore, but was only met with the icy Ebb and flow of the water lapping at my Feet
So, I stared out into the vast Big Blue
Which stared back at me with A vapid Expression
As if to tell me that I shouldn’t have Fallen in Love
With one of her daughters because I, myself, was not from The Deep
For I was a mere creature Who dwells on the Surface
Who only visits the sea Once in a while to Ponder
The vastness and intensity Of the great big Unknown
And, today, I continue to Do just That
More often now than I did Before
But only to walk along The Seashore
In hope of catching yet Another Glimpse
Of that girl, that creature, By the Seaside
