Gibbous
Don’t ever call me fat

I am gibbous; don’t ever call me fat. Gibbous is a phase that waxes and wanes; What’s true today was not so in the past.
I can blossom into fullness so fast, Or shrink ’til only a crescent remains. I am gibbous; don’t ever call me fat.
There was a time when I had an impact, And hot lava coursed through my youthful veins, What’s true today was not so in the past.
A life is shaped by the shadows it casts, The wonder and prominence it attains. I am gibbous; don’t ever call me fat.
Fat is forever and forever that, While I shift with the seasons as they change. What’s true today was not so in the past.
When I must go and your whole sky turns black, It is still my shadow the stars proclaim. I am gibbous; don’t ever call me fat, As true today as it was in the past.
Thank you, Bob Metivier, for telling me about this interesting villanelle form. Hope I did it right.
