Getting My First Followers on Medium: A Beginner’s Guide Without Breaking a Sweat (or Keyboard)
So, you want to grow your audience on Medium. Perhaps, like me, you’re just starting out, or maybe you’ve been a member for a while but still aren’t getting the engagement you crave. No need to worry or do any more research! I’ve done the legwork for you by scouring the best articles on Medium about boosting your followership, and I’m here to share those golden nuggets with you. Look no further; your research is done, and your path to Medium stardom is just a scroll away! 😄🚀

- Find Your Thing
Before you set sail on this Medium journey, it’s crucial to discover what truly makes your writer’s heart beat faster. What ignites your passion? Whether it’s the sizzling world of culinary arts, exhilarating tales of globetrotting adventures, or the cozy and intricate world of knitting, you need to pinpoint your niche.
But here’s the secret sauce: Don’t just dip your toes into your chosen niche; dive in headfirst and make it your own. Give your stories a personal touch that sets them apart. For instance, in my very first article, I opened the door for readers to join me on my quest to achieve passive income. So, I can confidently say that I’ve got point 1 covered!
Your niche is your compass in the vast sea of Medium, guiding both you and your readers to exciting destinations. So, follow your writer’s heart, and let your passion shine through in every word you craft. 🌟📝
2. Write Your Heart Out
Quantity never beats quality, my friend. Put your heart and soul into writing. From the top articles I’ve read, they got a recipe for success: add your own personality and a splash of humor. It’s likely that your readers will enjoy reading if you’re having a great time writing it. I found in life that my friends always laugh about my pain. It’s funny because Kevin Hart his show is also called: laugh at my pain. I think it’s for a reason ;-)
3. Stick to a Routine (Mostly)
Now, I’m not suggesting that you become a content-producing machine. I’ll simply establish a rhythm that suits your flow. It’s the same for every form of content creation, whether it’s Medium, Youtube or TikTok. It’s a good thing for your readers/followers to know, what type of content they can except (niche) and when they can expect it (like weekly).
4. Hop on the Publication Train
Ever heard of Medium publications? They’re like the cool kids’ club for writers. Find the ones that align with your style and submit your work there. It’s like hitching a ride on the express train to follower-town. I’ve found the publications sector through my research and some people their pages really exploded after writing an ‘’About Me’’ section. My own page got 66 views after posting the ‘’About Me’’ instead of the 25. Not a lot of views but if you look at it percentage wise, it’s huge!
5. Chat It Up
Don’t be a wallflower. Engage with your readers in the comment section. It’s like hosting a party; be the host with the most! Respond to comments, share your thoughts, and make some virtual friends. Also, good to mention. In an article of Alyssa Mahin on Medium (article linked here), she says the following:
Please follow me for more fun researched articles. I love following others with great content and would love to follow others with similarly great content. Be sure to enjoy the below tips and good luck! Follow for follow tactics can get you banned from medium, so I do not recommend it. — Alyssa Mahin

6. Be Patient and stay consistent
This is a quality I don’t posses yet but you know what they say. Rome wasn’t built in a day, and neither are your followers. Don’t get discouraged if your follower count resembles a snoozing sloth at first. Keep at it, keep learning, and remember that every writer started from zero. All articles that I’ve read say the same things: share your articles as much as you can on other socials like Facebook, LinkedIn and Insta. Like people their content, and follow like minded people. Medium is a long game. If you’re here for the quick followers and/or money, you should maybe try TikTok or Dropshipping.
7. Analyze and Tweak
Check your stats regularly. Don’t be like me and hit the refresh button all day like a maniac. But it’s important to see what’s cooking, what’s simmering, and what’s downright cold. See what posts are doing well and which aren’t. Adjust your game plan, experiment, and keep improving your recipe for Medium success.
Remember, getting your first followers on Medium is like taking the first step on a grand adventure. The hardest thing is to start. So, keep those fingers dancing on the keyboard, smile through the highs and lows, and watch your follower count grow. Your first follower is just around the corner! 📝🚀
