Get Your Seeds —Grow Your Food
No skills needed, anyone can do it

Are You Ready To Garden?
Like ‘are you ready to rumble’ but…way more productive! Tasting the food you have grown is awemazing! The picture above shows the growing calendar and product description for cucumber seeds. No skills needed! Read and follow directions under the Growing Information Tab.
Growing Information Tab
This is why I feel like you really don’t need a lot of skills. The growing tab includes:
- How to sow and plant (Sowing seeds indoors or directly in the garden)
- How to grow
- Harvesting and preserving
Even if you don’t buy from Burpee you can still use these directions. I have had experiences where not everything went exactly as planned. But, I have always been able to enjoy at least some fruits of my labor and love. (Love is the special ingredient to growing!)
Ordering Seeds
I just placed my order today! A few of my choices were unavailable. Planning ahead is always one of my downfalls in this process. I always think I am ahead of the game but, most often I am a little further behind than I should be.
I signed up to be notified when my selected cucumbers, tomatoes, and eucalyptus is available. I ordered alternative tomatoes. I am hopeful that I will have a second chance on ordering the others.
I switched up my okra order from the small patio variety to the tall border type —my husband will finally get his wish — some of our food garden will be in the front of the house this year. Okra is a nice tall stalk with very pretty yellow flowers. (I would share one of my photos from last year but I washed my phone in the washing machine on accident. I am starting over on my photo album! My okra pictures were not recovered.)
Extra Bonus
As I was checking out with my seed order, a pop-up brought Johnny Jump-Ups right to me! They were not in the seed catalog and I forgot about them. But, now I have some on the way! They are edible and beautiful. They are also a link to my grandmother — she always had them in her gardens and we have often talked about the ones I have and the ones her mother and grandmother had. I am glad I will have more again this year! I also will bring some of the seeds to her. I travel to help her with her garden in the Spring. That is my “job” she says! I featured them in a salad as the cover photo in the story linked below. That is also where you can find the seeds that I ordered this year and how I made my choices.
Get Your Seeds — Grow Your Food
Growing your food is a great reason to garden. That part is great! There is also love and passion in the process! As I mentioned gardening is something that my grandmother and I bond over. My mother and my sister and I also send a lot of photos and have a lot of conversations around whatever we are growing each year as well. It is something fun for us to share.
Thanks for reading! I hope everyone gets their seeds and starts growing some food! The two stories below outline my journey to gardening and how gardening led to me passing my passions on to my students.
